Multi-million order to Russia
Norilsk Nickel invests in Atlas Copco
Norilsk Nickel, located in Siberia some 300 km north of the Arctic Circle, is Russia’s premier nickel producer. Norilsk has three main underground mines – Komsomolsky, Oktjabrsky and Taimyrski where they use different variants of the cut and fill mining method.
The minerals mined are nickel, copper, cobalt, silver, gold, platinum and palladium, and the company hopes to increase its production of palladium to meet the global needs.
Atlas Copco has been working closely with Norilsk Nickel for more than 30 years, and this co-operation has since that time been successively increased. In addition to Boomer drill rigs and LHD’s the fleet of equipment is also including Simba rigs and Robbins raise drills. Operator training has been a priority at the Norilsk mines for many years, and Atlas Copco has based technical specialists to provide training, parts and technical support at Norilsk.
